The CUIB Sports Academy (CUSA) was created in 2014 by the President of the Catholic University Institute of Buea, Rev. Fr. George Nkeze, with the slogan, “Engaging Students for Success”. The academy created to serve the community and the nation through encouraging young people to engage in their passion: combining their passion with education and spirituality in a bid to reduce delinquency in the society quickly brought in a pool of talent in different sports and garnered admiration from number of people.
Since its official start discipline has been the key word guiding the training and development of athletes of the CUIB Sports Academy. This has, directly and indirectly, changed the lives of the athletes in the Academy in terms of respect, focus, determination, and hard work all in pursuit of success.
The Academy though young has its fair share of successes with athletes such as Ngoe Rodrick and Ikundi Oscar who play football for the Georgia College Bulldogs and Nova Nighthawk as well as Ebwe Ekaney Luxley recently selected to join the junior national football team of Cameroon. All three of the students/soccer players symbolize hard work and discipline inculcated by the CUIB Sports Academy.
In basketball, the CUIB BERAKAH team emerged second in the SAMSUNG international 3×3 championship. The captain, Elombi Frederick Ngoh expressed his joy and gratitude to CUIB. His team mate Makala Ngongi expressed the same feeling saying “I saw no future without Basketball, the streets could have been my home, and I was but a tyrant looking for the next prey to devour. I have found peace in my passion, I have learned discipline from the Academy and now, I represent Excellence where ever I go”
CUSA goes beyond CUIB; the Academy supports children from rural areas of the South West Region and the country in general in fulfilling their dreams of having an education while developing their talents in different sports disciplines.
CUSA is thriving in its quest to foster excellence through passion and talent development and the future can only be brighter. The Academy firmly supports passion pursuit, education, and spirituality among its athletes.
