CUIB student Meryline Namondo Bume of the College of Business and Technology is second best student of Mechanical Fabrication (Mechanical engineering) at this year’s Higher National Diploma exams in Cameroon. According to her, emerging second in the entire country is thanks to the collaboration between lecturers and students; coupled with the entrepreneurial and spiritual values imbibed in them at CUIB.
The student who has a passion for mechanical engineering grabbed the opportunity to see her dream come true following information from her uncle about the CUIB Community Stakeholder’s Scholarship. The scholarship targets academically talented students from economically challenged and disadvantaged backgrounds within the University’s host communities. It covers all expenses excerpt accommodation and living expenses.
With its mission to train professional servant leaders with moral and spiritual values who will impact on their communities many students are beneficiaries to the different scholarships offered by CUIB. Ndive Thomas Ikome who studies Accountancy at the College of Business and Technology is another beneficiary of the CCSS. He like Namondo, says while studying at CUIB he has been trained to know the value of collaboration in academics for unified success: students working with their peers and teachers. He further says he has been exposed to companies through the trade fair and has learnt to give back to his community what CUIB has given him.
“… I have always had a passion for teaching and while waiting to pursue the opportunities I have before me, I teach other students and children back in my village, so they too can have better opportunities like I did with CUIB. CUIB taught me to serve my community.”
CUIB alongside academics is a big promoter of talent in different fields: sports, music, dance, thus the CUIBY talent scholarship. The scholarship has brought many students to CUIB. Makala NgongiNganda is privy to study his dream programme – Tourism and hotel management offered by the College of Business due to his talent in basketball. He says he has not only gained academic knowledge but has also learnt to be focused on achieving his vision from the guest speaker events organized by the institution.
The University also has the Chancellor’s Scholarship, the Sr. Emmanuella Fomenky Memorial Scholarship prioritized for girls, as well as the Diocese of Buea Nursery and Primary School Teachers Children Scholarship. Thesescholarships are all open for the 2016/2017 academic year with application deadlines in September.
